Darleen Chandler. Coffee Table. February 05th , 2018.
Provocative but Functional. Coffee tables can be a fusion of the living and the abstract - a combination of aquarium and modern art. An ottoman combining storage, coffee pot and fish - though not fish for eating but for discussion. It is a living item of furniture that is both beautiful and thought provoking. A provocative item of furniture is sure to keep the conversation flowing over coffee. To put it in simpler terms, it should be a piece of furniture that people notice and comment upon, but that can also be used for setting down snacks, coffee cups and drinks glass. That, after all, is its primary raison d’être. Above all else, this type of table must be functional and the fish should not get in the way of the cups, nor should the books leave no room for the plates.
Some small rooms require a table that can be functional. If this is the case, the table needs to be big enough to hold snacks, lamps, etc. The size of the family also needs to be considered and sometimes a couple of coffee tables will be necessary to meet the needs of a large group of people. Rectangular and square tables can be the answer to this decorating challenge. Round tables can also work but they can offer less surface area.
Coffee tables are frequently the central focus of a living area and therefore have a tremendous impact on a room’s decor and ambiance. A wise choice can create a feeling of style and harmony whilst a poor choice can make a room look disordered and can overwhelm the other furniture, making the room look smaller and feel less unified.
Matching the Room Décor. Coffee tables and end tables should punctuate your general room decor and not strictly clash with it. However, should you have reason to prefer them not to match then there is no strict rule about this. Nevertheless, your room decoration will look more harmonious if your occasional tables match with your general living room furniture. Coffee tables and end tables should also meet the purpose you have intended for them. In some cases, this will be simply as a repository for a coffee cup or drinks glass. For others it might mean holding countless magazines or ’coffee table’ books. Whatever your purpose is, your occasional tables should meet your needs while also matching the rest of the furniture in the room - or by contrasting with it by design.
